Kids' Backpack Program

The Kids' Backpack Program provides nutritious kid-friendly food to about 130 students at Honey Brook and Twin Valley Elementary Schools from October through May. Kids take home bags of food every other Friday (on the off weeks of our community food distributions).

How do kids join the program?

At the beginning of each school year, the school nurses send out a notice inviting parents to enroll their kids. If you missed the chance to sign up, please contact your kid's school nurse.

What types of food do kids get?

Since the kids take the bags of food home on the bus, we try to keep them light. We typically provide fruit cups, granola bars, Ramen noodles, hot or cold cereal (depending on the season), macaroni and cheese, peanut butter crackers, and a protein such as canned pasta (like spaghetti and meatballs), tuna fish, or a small jar of peanut butter. We also include food, which changes monthly, from the Chester County Food Bank.

Kid foods including drink boxes, crackers, and applesauce

During summer months

From June through September, the Pantry includes "kid food" for families with children at community food distributions.
