The Honey Brook Food Pantry Garden for Life Program

This year the Honey Brook Food Pantry Garden For Life program again offered family container vegetable gardens and kids’ gardens, and added two raised vegetable beds at the Honey Brook Borough Park.

About 30 families chose to have container vegetable gardens at their homes, consisting of three containers with a choice of vegetables including tomatoes, sweet peppers, herbs, eggplant, beans, lettuce, jalapeño peppers, beets and cucumbers. Containers, soil, seedlings, seeds and instructions were delivered to homes so families could grow healthy food at home without having to build an in-ground garden.

Twenty or so children took part in the kids’ garden project. Each child decorated their container, chose a vegetable plant and went home with the supplies to grow their own garden at home.

The two raised beds at the Honey Brook Borough Park were new this year. We grew lots of tomatoes, sweet peppers, eggplant, beans, radishes, zucchini, beets and flowers. Some of the produce went to the Food Pantry and we were happy to share vegetables and flowers with our neighbors who visited the park as well. All in all a successful harvest this year!
